Unfollow Tracker ("the App") helps users compare changes in their Instagram follower and following lists while keeping that data on the user's own device.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App processes, how it is used, and the choices available to users. It describes the App's actual behaviour.
1. Instagram Account Information
Unfollow Tracker allows users to sign in to Instagram through Instagram's own web interface, displayed inside the App.
The App does not operate its own Instagram login system. Your Instagram password is entered directly into Instagram's own page and is never read, collected, transmitted, or stored by the App's code — not on a server, and not on your device. The App also never reads or stores your Instagram session credentials; the in-app browser component handles the logged-in session itself, in the same way a normal browser does.
Once you are signed in, and only when you choose to capture a snapshot, the App reads the following through your authenticated Instagram session:
- Your Instagram account identifier and username
- Your followers list and your following list
- For each account in those lists: username, display name (where set), profile photo URL (where set), and Instagram's internal account identifier
- Your follower and following counts, including the counts Instagram itself reports
- Historical snapshots used to determine changes between captures
Instagram's internal account identifiers are stored because they allow the App to tell the difference between someone unfollowing you and someone simply changing their username.
The App does not read or store your posts, photos, stories, direct messages, comments, likes, follow requests, or any other Instagram content.
2. Local Data Storage
Follower-related data and historical snapshots generated by the App are stored only on the user's device.
The developer does not operate any backend server for storing users' Instagram follower or following data. There is no account system, and no copy of this data exists anywhere outside your device.
Local application data may include:
- Account identifiers and usernames
- Display names and profile photo URLs of accounts in your lists
- Follower and following snapshots and capture timestamps
- Application preferences and internal settings
- Advertising-related entitlement status (see Section 4)
- Other information required for the App to function
This data is encrypted at rest on your device using SQLite3MultipleCiphers. The encryption key is generated on your device, is 256 bits long, and is held in your device's hardware-backed secure keystore (Android Keystore). The key is never stored inside the database itself and never leaves the device.
The App also excludes its data from Android's automatic cloud backup and device-transfer features, so your follower history is not copied to cloud storage by the operating system.
The App contains no analytics, crash-reporting, telemetry, or usage-tracking software. Apart from the advertising and billing services described in Sections 3 and 4, the App communicates only with Instagram, using your own session, at your request.
Users can delete stored application data using the deletion controls in the App's Settings screen (see Section 7).
3. Advertising
Unfollow Tracker uses Google AdMob to display advertisements to users who have not purchased the advertising-removal option.
Google and its advertising partners may automatically collect or process certain information for advertising, fraud prevention, measurement, and related purposes. Depending on the user's device, location, settings, and consent choices, this may include:
- Advertising identifiers
- Device information
- IP address
- Approximate location derived from network information
- Advertising interaction data
- Diagnostic and performance information
This collection is carried out by Google's own software running on your device, under Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Advertising Policies. The developer does not receive this information.
Google's advertising software has no access to your Instagram data. Your followers, following lists, and snapshots are never passed to it, and there is no mechanism in the App by which that could occur.
Consent
The App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) where applicable to obtain and manage consent before advertising is initialized. No advertising software is started and no advertisement is requested until this consent step has completed. If consent cannot be established, no ads are shown at all.
Users in applicable regions may be presented with options relating to personalized advertising and data sharing. Declining personalized advertising does not remove ads; it means the ads shown are non-personalized.
Where ads appear
- A banner advertisement may appear on the App's main screen. It is never displayed while a capture is running.
- Occasionally, after a capture has completed successfully, a full-screen advertisement may appear before the results are shown. This never occurs during a capture, never before a user's first capture, and is limited in frequency so that it does not follow every capture.
4. In-App Purchases
The App offers a one-time purchase to remove advertisements. It is not a subscription.
Payments are processed entirely through Google Play Billing. The developer does not receive or store any payment information, including card details or billing addresses.
The App receives purchase status information from Google Play in order to determine whether the user is entitled to the ad-free version. This entitlement is cached locally so that the App continues to respect an existing purchase while offline; the cache is never the authoritative record. On each launch the App asks Google Play what the user actually owns, which is what allows the purchase to be restored automatically after reinstalling the App or moving to another device signed in to the same Google account.
5. Data Sharing
The developer does not sell users' Instagram follower or following information, and does not share it with any third party.
Information may be processed by third-party service providers where necessary to operate specific features of the App:
- Google AdMob and related advertising services
- Google User Messaging Platform
- Google Play Billing
Those providers process information according to their own privacy policies and applicable agreements.
The App does not provide users' locally stored Instagram follower history to advertisers or to any other party. That data remains in the App's encrypted local storage and is not transmitted anywhere.
Information about other people
Because a followers or following list necessarily contains other Instagram users' usernames and public profile information, that information is stored locally on your device alongside your own. It is not transmitted to the developer or to any third party, and exists only within your own local, encrypted copy of your own Instagram relationship data.
6. Privacy Choices and Consent
Where required, users are presented with privacy and advertising choices through Google's consent-management tools.
Where applicable in the user's region, these choices can be revisited at any time from the App's Settings screen under "Privacy choices."
Users may also use operating-system privacy controls, advertising controls, or Google account settings to manage certain forms of advertising-related data processing.
7. Data Deletion
Users can delete data stored by Unfollow Tracker from within the App.
Settings → "Delete all snapshots" permanently removes all locally stored follower and following history, all snapshots, all stored account records, and related application data from the device. This action cannot be undone.
Two clarifications:
- Deleting snapshots does not sign you out of Instagram. To remove your Instagram session from the device, use Settings → "Disconnect Instagram."
- Deleting snapshots does not cancel or remove an ad-removal purchase, which is recorded by Google Play independently of the App and is restored automatically.
Users may also remove the App and its locally stored data using Android's application-management features. Because the App's data is stored in private application storage and excluded from system backups, uninstalling the App removes the encrypted database, its encryption key, and the Instagram session from the device.
Deleting local application data does not delete information independently processed by third-party services such as Google. Requests relating to information controlled by those providers should be directed to the applicable provider.
8. Data Retention
Locally generated follower-history information remains on the user's device until the user deletes it, clears the App's data, or uninstalls the App. The developer retains no copy and therefore has no retention period of its own for this information.
Information processed independently by Google or other third-party providers is retained according to their own privacy policies.
9. Children
Unfollow Tracker is not designed for or directed at children, and is not marketed to them.
The App does not verify the age of its users and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the developer operates no server, no user information of any kind is collected by the developer.
The App should not be used by anyone who is not permitted to use the relevant Instagram or Google services under those services' own terms.
If you believe a child has provided personal information through the advertising services described in Section 3, please contact us using the details in Section 14, and also refer to Google's own privacy controls.
10. Security
The App is designed so that follower-history information stays on the user's device. It is encrypted at rest, excluded from system backups, and the App does not permit unencrypted (cleartext) network connections.
However, no software, device, or network environment can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users remain responsible for the security of their device and of their Instagram and Google accounts.
11. Third-Party Services
The App interacts with services governed by separate terms and privacy policies, including Instagram and Google services.
Unfollow Tracker is an independent application. It is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or officially associated with Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc. Instagram and related trademarks belong to their respective owners.
12. International Users
Advertising and privacy requirements vary by location. The App uses consent-management tools to provide region-specific privacy choices, including choices applicable to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and certain U.S. states.
Where privacy laws grant you rights over personal data, note that the follower information handled by this App is stored solely on your own device and is fully under your control — you can view and permanently delete it at any time using the in-app controls described in Section 7. Requests concerning advertising data collected by Google should be directed to Google, which controls that data.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when the App's functionality, third-party services, or legal requirements change. Any updated version will carry a revised effective date.
